The Day the Dam Burst

The Day the Dam Broke is an original show inspired by ‘The Day the Dam Broke’ a short story by James Thurber that recounts the true story of an afternoon in 1913 Columbus Ohio when a rumour spread that the dam had broken and water was rushing towards the town. The inhabitants grabbed their belongings and all ran east for miles to avoid the surging waters, only to find out two hours later that the dam hadn’t broken and it had all been a frenzied panic.

The cast of actors multi-role as the inhabitants of a fictional town as they flee a perilous catastrophe. Once they start running they don’t stop for the duration of the show. Instruments are played, songs sung, scenes and costumes changed all while in full flight.

This is a frenetic show that whips the audience up and drags them into a community struck by mob-mentality, finger pointing and fake news. In an age of conspiracy theories and misinformation this satirical show examines our ongoing relationship with the truth and the beliefs that bind or un-bind us.

Tunnel 29

Tunnel 29 tells the remarkable true story of a team of students who set about digging a tunnel under the Berlin wall to free their friends trapped in the Soviet controlled East. It is a remarkable tale of youthful resistance and ambition during the height of the cold war

1962 Berlin. The iron curtain is drawn, a concrete wall erected, East and West divided. The shadow of war still looms over the Socialist East. Food is scarce; paranoia runs deep and Stasi patrol the streets. But 30 feet under the ground, someone is digging…

TESLA

Tesla is an  energetic show that uses, live music, puppetry, and physical theatre to tell the life story of Nicola Tesla. The set is comprised of a series of blackboards that the cast draw scenery on live in front of the audience, moving and re-arranging them to create every location in the show. This gives the show two essential qualities; the feeling of a memory being pieced together in front of you and a look inside the inventors mind as he moves and configures separate pieces of an invention.

The show is both human and humours as it examines the light and dark side of a man struggling to deal with a mental health condition. It is historically accurate while subverting the usual style of a historical piece by frequently breaking into song and moments of physical theatre as it rockets through the story of one of histories most forgotten inventors.

Liberation

Paint is thrown onto the naked body as art and theatre combine in an explosion of colour and movement. Liberation is a theatrical dissection of modern life and our search for liberation. We are born into a system that always has us preparing for something that’s going to happen and conditions us to be in desperate need of a future. This thought provoking piece examines this “life that never gets there” through dance, theatrical clowning, live music, choral singing and exquisite imagery. It’s a vivid and visceral experience. Sometimes violent, sometimes beautiful, always messy.
